PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the classification of human individuals, useful for the diagnosis of diabetes and diabetes-relating diseases and the evaluation of the treating agent for the diseases.;SOLUTION: Human individuals are classified into a group 1 composed of high activity type ALDH2 and high activity type ADH2, a group 2 composed of high activity type ALDH2 and low activity type ADH2, a group 3 composed of low activity type ALDH2 and high activity type ADH2, and a group 4 composed of low activity type ALDH2 and low activity type ADH2 based on the activity levels of ALDH2 and ADH2. The quantity of aldehyde in the cytoplasm and mitochondria can be predicted by the classification to predict the onset risk of diabetes and diabetic complications.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
