PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freshness-preserving substance-releasing polymer composition that can attain exact, economical and efficiently control the gas concentration in order to retaining freshness of perishables, e.g. eggs, fruits or vegetables by the gas environment controlling method for a long time although the controlling method has been considered to be difficult, and to provide a freshness-preserving agent, its storage and transportation and a method for retaining the freshness. PSOLUTION: The freshness preserving substance-releasing polymer composition (A) can contain 2 mass parts of a freshness-preserving substance (a) having a critical temperature of 0-150C and a critical pressure of 3-10MPa per 100 mass parts of the polymer (b). In another case, the freshness-preserving composition is composed of 100 mass parts of polymer (b) that can continue the release of the freshness-preserving substance (a) under atmospheric pressure at 25C for 100 hours and 2-70 mass parts of at least one of the freshness-preserving substance (a).
