PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movement handrail device for a variable speed type passenger conveyor not formed in a split structure, capable of changing the speed of a single handrail between a low speed district and a high speed district by a single drive system, and allowing the extension thereof by the volumetric change of a handrail cover itself to prevent fingers from being pinched by forming the cover with a single annular body.;SOLUTION: This movement handrail device is disposed on the passenger conveyor 1 having the low speed districts 1A and 1B and the high speed district 1C so as to be annularly formed by a support guide. The movement handrail 2 of the movement handrail device comprises a large number of handrail block members 3 formed in an at least generally T-shape in cross section and supported on the support guide, extendable connection link members 4 connecting the block members adjacent to each other in the moving direction, a driving part 6 providing a moving force to the connected block members 3, and an extension forcing member 7 increasing the speed of the block members 3 by forcibly extending the link members 4 in the high speed district 1C.
