PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a gain profile in an optical fiber line to have a desired shape.;SOLUTION: Probe pulse light with a measurement wavelength of λm is outputted from a C-OTDR measuring apparatus 36 to the optical fiber line 14. A power level at the input side or the output side of a variable gain equalizing apparatus 22 can be measured from the C-OTDR waveform of the return light of the probe pulse light inputted via a C-OTDR light path 20c and the optical fiber line 16. The gain profile is measured by sweeping the measurement wavelength λm. Equalization characteristics in the variable gain equalizing apparatus 22 are remotely controlled to achieve a gain profile in a desired shape according to the measured result.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
