PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer latex for moistureproof paper capable of giving moistureproof coated paper suitably usable for food packaging, emitting substantially no odor and high in moistureproofness and disaggregativeness, to provide a method for producing the copolymer latex, to provide a coating composition for moistureproof paper containing the copolymer latex, and to provide moistureproof coated paper coated with the composition. PSOLUTION: The copolymer latex for moistureproof paper is obtained by copolymerization of monomer mixtures each of specific composition essentially containing an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer, wherein one of the monomer mixtures containing a smaller amount of the ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer is subjected to copolymerization followed by further copolymerization of the other monomer mixture containing a greater amount of the ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer to obtain a latex with relatively small particle size, into which a specific amount of steam is blown, followed by carrying out a steam distillation.
