摘要

In this work, suspension polymerized latex was used as a co-binder to replace part of emulsion polymerized latex in paper coatings, and its effect on the surface and mechanical properties of coated paper was investigated. Prior to the coating process, viscosity and dewatering properties of coating colors were determined. After coating, the surface morphology of coated paper was observed by scanning electron microscope. Gloss, PPS roughness and brightness of coated paper were measured after calendering, followed by mechanical property measurement of coated paper, where modulus of elasticity, tensile stress and tensile index were determined. Results indicated that suspension polymerized latex can greatly increase the viscosity and water holding capacity of paper coatings. With the increased dosage of this latex, the surface of coated paper became more porous and rougher as depicted by microscopic images. A slight increase in gloss and brightness and a decrease in PPS roughness were found. Meanwhile, the mechanical strength of coated paper was enhanced.
