PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road surface grade calculating method that can accurately calculate gradient on a road surface during travelling in two- and four-wheel drive vehicles and is applicable to the four-wheel drive vehicle.;SOLUTION: In the method, the grade of the road surface is calculated according to roll acceleration obtained by wheel speed rotation information on the drive wheels of the four-wheel drive vehicle during travelling, and front-and-back acceleration due to a front-and-back-direction acceleration sensor being installed in the vehicle so that the sensor faces the direction of travel of the vehicle.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
