PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eye position detector and an eye position detection method that more accurately detect the position of the eye. PSOLUTION: An image photographed by a photographing device 1 is inputted to an eye position detector body 3 and binarized by the eye position detector body 3, and an axial projection is carried out on the basis of the binary image and the center-of-gravity position of the binary image is computed on the basis of the projection output. The center-of-gravity position computed is understood as an eye position for the purpose of simplification, a search window is made on the basis of the position, and a high-brightness portion is detected from an image in the search window. If the size is within a predetermined requirement, the center-of-gravity position of the high brightness portion is computed and is understood as a final eye position. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
