PURPOSE: To obtain a compound having a new benzanilide-type chemical structure and exhibiting remarkable trichogenic and hair-growth promoting actions. ;CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R₁ is H, OH, a (substituted)alkyloxy or a (substituted)aliphatic or an aromatic acyloxy; R₂ and R₅ are H, a (substituted)saturated alkyl, an aralkyl, a (substituted)aliphatic, an aromatic acryl; R₃ is H, a (substituted)saturated alkyl or a (substituted)aryl; R₄ is H, a (substituted)saturated alkyl, a (substituted)aliphatic or aromatic acryl or a 5-6C monosaccharide furanosyl or pyranosyl; R₁ is not H when R₂, R₃ and R₅ are H and R₄ is glucopyranosyl], e.g. 2'-carboxy-2,5'-dihydroxy-4'-ethoxy-5- methoxy-benzanilide. This compound can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II [R₁ and R₂ are H, a (substituted)saturated alkyl, an aralkyl, a (substituted) acryl, a 5-6C monosaccharide furanosyl or pyranosyl having acylated OH] with a compound of formula III.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
