PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably control the opening and closing speed of a door and to eliminate the necessity of the provision of a special manipulation switch. ;SOLUTION: An automatic opening and closing device for a pop-up type door is composed of a geared cable 3 having one end connected to a rear door D of a vehicle and adapted to move normally and reversely so as to open and close the door D, a drive motor 4 for applying a moving force to the geared cable 3, an electromagnetic clutch for connecting and disengaging the drive motor 4 to and from the geared cable 3, a speed sensor 5 for detecting a movement of the geared cable 3 when the clutch is disengaged, and a control unit for engaging the clutch when a movement of the geared cable 3 is detected, and for starting the motor 4 so as to move the geared cable 3 in the direction at this time. After the rear door D having being fully closed or opened is manually opened or closed by a some degree, the rear door D is automatically opened and closed by the drive motor 4.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
