PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a low curing temperature, excellent in solubility in a cationic polymerizable monomer such as an epoxy resin and useful as a curing catalyst for the cationic polymerizable monomer. ;SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each a substituted or an unsubstituted aliphatic group or the like and is capable of forming a ring; R3 is a hydrocarbon having a monovalent hetero-aromatic group at the a-position with respect to S; and X is an anion selected from BF4, PF6, AsF6 and SbF6), e.g. 3-mehylthienyltetramethylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate. The compound represented by the formula is obtained by reacting the corresponding halogenated methyl-hetero-aromatic (e.g. 3- bromomethylthiophene) with a sulfide (e.g. tetrahydrothiophene), preferably at 0-20°C usually for 10 min to 2 h and carrying out the anion exchange reaction of the synthesized sulfonium salt having a halide anion with the corresponding Lewis acid salt (e.g. potassium hexafluoroantimonate) usually in water, preferably at 0-20°C usually for 1-30 min.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
