PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible display a map of a target point speedily, by calling out corresponding color map composition raster data for display from the unit number of monochromatic map composition raster data for display, and recomposing and displaying a map for display on a CRT. ;SOLUTION: A display control means 17 inputs monochromatic composition raster data 13a for display, which can be displayed fast and displays them first on the CRT 18 when a map is retrieved and displayed. Then, a point to be displayed is determined and when the retrieval display processing is stopped, color map composition raster data 16a for display corresponding to the unit number of the monochromatic map composition raster data 14a for display, which are being displayed are read out. When the read of the color map composition raster data 16a for display of one color raster map is completed, the composition of a map for display is performed again and the map is displayed on the CRT 18.
