A process for the elimination of insects and arachnids, especially acarids, comprises diffusing a solution of permethrin and tetramethrin, optionally with piperonyl butoxide, in a combustible solvent using a catalytic combustion means. The diffusion is affected using an apparatus as shown in the drawing. Solution (4) of permethrin and tetramethrin in a combustible solvent diffuses up wick (8) to a catalytic combustion means (14).
