PURPOSE: To provide a protection apparatus for an art object or the like, capable of preventing the fall thereof of damages thereto even upon a fall, at the time of occurrence of an earthquake. ;CONSTITUTION: A folded air bag 24 is laid under, above or at the side of a work A₂ such as an art object, or a folded protection screen is provided above the work A₂. When the magnitude of an earthquake exceeds the prescribed value, the bag 24 is inflated to bulge around the work A₂, or the screen is made to descend to a position around the work A₂. The work A₂ is protected with the bulged air bag 24' or the fallen screen. As a result, the fall of the work A₂ can be prevented, even upon the occurrence of such a heavy earthquake as liable to cause the fall thereof.
