PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a diamagnetic coating excellent in corrosion-resistance by regulating the content of oxygen and the content of S to a specified value or below. ;SOLUTION: As this Mn alloy material for a magnetic material, alloy components other than Mn are selected from Fe, It, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Ni, Cr and Co. Particularly, alloys of Mn-Fe series, Mn-Ir series, Mn-Rh-Ru series and the like are useful as the one for forming diamagnetic coating. Then, by regulating the content of oxygen to ≤500 ppm and that of S to ≤100 ppm, its corrosion-resistance can be improved. Furthermore, impurities other than Mn and the alloy components are preferably reduced as much as possible because they deteriorate its magnetic properties and cause deterioration in its corrosion resistance, and their total content is regulated to ≤1,000 ppm. For this purpose, in the case high frequency melting is executed in such a manner that Ca, Mg, La and the like as oxidizers areadded to electrolytic Mn on the market in an inert gas atmosphere under the reduced presesure, not only the contents of oxygen and sulfur but also those of impurity elements can sufficiently be reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
