A substituted barium-neodymium-titanium perovskite having a defect structure of the general composition IMAGE where the cations IMAGE include at least Ba2+, Nd3+ and, if desired, one or more cations selected from the group consisting of Cs1+, Rb1+, Tl+, K1+, Pb2+, Ag1+, Sr2+, Na1+, Bi3+, La3+, Ca2+, Ce3+, Cd2+ Pr3+, Nd 3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, Th4+, Tb3+, Mn2+, Li1+, Dy3+, U4+, Y3+, Fe2+, Ho3+, Ce 4+ , Co2+, Zn2+, Er3+, Tm3+, Yb3+, and/or Lu3+, the cations IMAGE include at least titanium and, if desired, one or more cations selected from the group consisting of Mn2+, Cr2+, In3+, V2+, Fe2+, Pb4+, Li1+, Zr4+, Co2+, Sc3+, Zn2+, Cu2+, U6+, Mg2+, Hf 4+, Mo3+, Sn4+, Ni2+, Nb4+, Ti3+, W4+, Mo4+, Fe3+, Mn3+, V3+, Re4+, Ir4+, Ru 4+ , W5+, Ta5+, Cr3+, Ga3+, Co3+, Mo5+, Ni3+, Sb5+, W6+, Nb5+, Mo6+, Fe4+, Re 5+, V4+, Te6+, V5+, Cu3+, Al3+, Mn4+, Ge4+, and/or Re7+ &squ& are cation vacancies and a1 + a2 + ... + an+1 = 1, 0.17 an+1 0.30, b1 + b2 + ... + bn = 1 and a1*n1 + a2*n2 + ...+ an*nn + b1 * m1 + b2m2 + ... + bm*mm = 6, is an improved dielectric, ceramic material whose dielectric properties can be reliably reproduced and optimised for certain application areas. A dielectric, ceramic composition containing this substituted barium-neodymium-titanium perovskite is suitable as the ceramic dielectric of capacitors, e.g. NPO capacitors, and microwave components, in particular dielectric resonators.
