PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine failure of a phase compensating means in a short time in the case of phase compensating torque sensor output by a phase compensating means in a motor-driven power steering device. ;SOLUTION: This motor-driven power steering device is provided with a DC motor 14 for applying steering assist force to a steering system, a torque sensor 3 for detecting the steering torque of the steering system, a phase compensating circuit 10b and a software phase compensating part 9a connected in parallel to the output of the torque sensor 3, phase compensating the output signal of the torque sensor 3 and outputting the same, and a control unit 9 for controlling a supply current to the DC motor 14 according to steering information containing an output signal of the phase compensating circuit 10b, and controlling the steering assist force to the steering system by the DC motor 14. The control unit 9 determines a failure of the phase compensating circuit 10b according to output signals of the phase compensating circuit 10b and the software phase compensating part 9a, and in case of a failure, steering assist by the DC motor 14 is stopped.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
