PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a substance having utility as a photocatalyst carrier or the like.;SOLUTION: The method for producing a titanium oxide whisker is characterized in that a Ti-V alloy film or a Ti-Mo alloy film is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to oxidize the alloy film from the surface side to thereby grow the titanium oxide whisker from the surface of the alloy film. The alloy film is preferably a film formed by sputtering and having compression stress inside. A photocatalyst substance such as a thin film of titania having several μm thickness can be firmly carried on the titanium oxide whisker densely formed on the surface of a substrate by the production method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
