PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve gasifying efficiency of a combustible constituent of waste or H2, by a method wherein the waste is compressed under non-dried condition prior to charging to form pellets, containing moisture, and the pellets are charged into a gasifying and melting furnace, in which waste, charged from the upper part of a vertical furnace, is incinerated and molten to take out the same. ;SOLUTION: Prior to charging of waste into a vertical furnace 1, the waste is compressed under non-dried condition to form pellets 2 containing moisture, and charge them from the upper part of the vertical furnace. In the vertical furnace 1, an upper part is a drying zone 3, a layer under the drying zone 3 is pyrolysis zone 4, and the other layer under the pyrolysis zone 4 is a combustion and melting zone 5 while the pellets 2 are passed through the drying zone 3, under a condition that the central parts of them are not dried yet and the water- gasifying reaction of moisture of the pellets 2 is promoted in the pyrolysis zone 4, whereby the gasifying of the combustible constituent of waste or H2 is effected. In this case, oxygen is supplied through an oxygen supplying port 7 near a hearth 6 to burn and melt the combustible constituent in the pyrolysis zone 4 and molten slag is taken out of the hearth 6. Gas produced by pyrolysis, is taken out of the upper part of the vertical furnace 1 to guide the same into secondary treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
