PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an extended color gamut digital image from a limited color gamut digital image obtained from a primary extended color gamut digital image. PSOLUTION: A changed inverse color regulation function is created. When the changed inverse color regulation function acts on a restricted color gamut digital image, an extended color gamut having highlight color saturation smaller than the corresponding color value of a primary extended color gamut in connection with a highlight color is created. The extended color gamut digital image having color saturation decreased in connection with a highlight color value by the action of the changed inverse color regulation function on the restricted color gamut digital image is formed.
