EXPANDER ROLL AND SEAL LAYER FORMING METHOD FOR METAL CYLINDER WITH FINE GROOVE IN EXPANDER ROLL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expander roll for realizing a uniform curve by taking metal instead of rubber for an outer layer coming into contact with paper. ;SOLUTION: This roll 14 is formed by consecutively connecting metal ring bodies 18 and journaled to a curved shaft 12 by a bearing 16. In order to heighten the flexibility of the roll 14, the metal ring bodies 18 have a number of fine grooves 20 extended in the circumferential direction. A seal layer 48 formed of polyurethane foam is formed extending from the inner periphery of the metal ring body 18 to the region of the fine groove 20. In the region of the fine groove 20, the polyurethane foam functions as a joint, thereby intercepting leaking lubricating oil from the bearing 16 and heightening the bending rigidity of the roll 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
