PURPOSE: To provide a log clamp device less in wear since no slide mechanism is employed, easily adaptable to any log with diameter greatly changing, capable of easy and rapid adjustment, simple in structure and reliable. ;CONSTITUTION: A device to hold a log or a roll L of a web material during cutting the log along a plane perpendicular to the axis of the log is provided with a plurality of clamping elements 27 arranged in a circle along the log L. The clamping elements 27 are movable so as to clamp the log L during the cutting, and also releasable so as to move the log in the axial direction between cuts. At least one actuator 49 operates the clamping element 27 and connectors 39, 41 to connect the clamping elements 27 to each other, and operates them simultaneously by the actuator 49. Each clamping element is turned around the axis so as to clamp the log. The connectors 39, 41 control the turn of the clamping element 27.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
