Fillers and dental composites containing fillers

PURPOSE:To obtain a dental filler having both high flexural strength and high smoothness and luster of abraded face of a cured material, adaptability of color tone to a natural tooth and opacity to X-ray and to provide a dental composite material using this filler. CONSTITUTION:This filler for a dental composite material, comprising silicon dioxide and at least one metal oxide having formed independent noncrystalline layers, is obtained by aggregating silicon dioxide and at least one metal oxide, heat-treating the aggregate at a temperature lower than the crystallization temperature of metal oxide.
