The steps (4, 5) are arranged so that each step in the row (2, 3) will be followed by another step belonging to the same row. One row of steps forms the left side of the staircase (12) and the other row forms the right side. The vertical step surface of a step in one row will extend to a height (A) approximately halfway up the vertical step surface of an adjoining step in the other row. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Staircase with two rows of steps arranged in a staggered left and right row arrangement so that the vertical step surfaces in one row extend to a point halfway up those in the other row, the staircase comprising a self-supporting structure assembled from wooden boards with vertical connections in between, preferably formed by headboards (13, 14); and (2) Staircase with two rows of steps arranged in a staggered left and right row arrangement so that the vertical step surfaces in one row extend to a point halfway up those in the other row, the staircase being pivotable about its top end between a slanting use position and a preferably vertically upwards oriented position.
