In the present invention, there is disclosed a method for preparing a tobacco blend comprising cutting a single cheese of processed tobacco leaves to at least two different cut widths and/or to at least two different cut strand lengths. Further disclosed is a tobacco blend comprising blend components of at least two different cut strand widths and/or lengths, whereby the composition of each of the said components being the same as the overall composition of the blend. Invented is also a smoking article comprising a wrapped rod including the above-described tobacco blend. Claimed is also a rotary cutter for cutting tobacco in order to prepare above-described tobacco blend, the cutter comprising a cylindrical body (60) rotatable about its principal axis, and a certain number of knives (52, 54, 56, 58, 52', 54', 56',58') mounted on the circumferential surface of the cylindrical body (60), whereby the blades of the knives (52, 54, 56, 58, 52', 54', 56',58', 62, 80), project above the circumferential surface of the cylindrical body (60) and extending parallel to the principal axis of said cylindrical body (60) wherein the cutter is characterized in that the angular spacing ({theta}) between the leading edges of the blades (68) of one pair of adjacent knives (52, 54, 56, 58; 52', 54', 56', 58'; 62) differs from that between the leading edges of the blades (68) of another pair of the adjacent knives (52, 54, 56, 58; 52', 54', 56', 58'; 62).
