The invention concerns a method which consists in: positioning the eye (3) relative to a detecting device (1) so as to form with said device a Fabry-Pérot cavity with main optical axis (A1) and comprising two opposite reflecting surfaces along the main optical axis (A1), one of the two surfaces being formed by a fixed reflective element (M1) and the other being formed by the cornea (2) of the eye; injecting in said Fabry-Pérot cavity an incident laser beam (F) centred on the main optical axis (A1) of the Fabry-Pérot cavity, the lateral and longitudinal alignments of the cornea (2) relative to the main optical axis (A1) being produced so as to obtain longitudinal interferences between the reflected initial and return laser beams between the two reflective surfaces of the cavity, and in detecting with an optoelectronic sensor (7) the intensity (I) in time of said interferences. The invention is useful for measuring intraocular pressure.
