Entrainment seperators in Evaporators and responsible for arresting sugar droplets from vapour ensuring sugar free vapour in to condenser. The present innovative design of whirlpool type seperator provides a better way to entrap the sugar particles. There are following three main parameters which the effectiveness of this seperator; 1) The total no. of blades, which may very from 8 to 12 no. 2) The inclination of angles with horizontal, which ranges from 18 to 24 3) The method of joining the blades. When these parameters are optimized, the ascending stream of vapours strike against the inner surface of the baffle plate and some particles of sugar are traped on the surface. After striking with the baffle plate, the course of the vapour stream changes. They are thrown outwards against the upper walls of the vessel. The trapped liquid disengages readily and flows down the sides of the vessel and finally will pass down the vesel through openings provided in the vessel. It provides ample impact surface for arresting the finer particles. It also increases the velocity of vapours. Modification has an objective to stop the deterioration of injection and cooling system due to entrainment of sugar and reduce "unknown sugar loss". Results are found very encouraging to meet objectives.
