The semi-automatic book cutter (1) is formed as a shears device with an upper blade (2) and a lower blade (3), each having an equal legged, right-angled triangular recess (10,11) for fixing the stems of the book. By movement to rotate the upper blade through an angle (alpha) and the lower blade through an angle (beta) cutting takes place. The book cutter against bodily damage is protected by a surround (12) and screen plates (13) with hinged parts (14).
