The machine frame comprises a fixed section (2) and a movable section (5), the guide rolls (6, 7) for the belt (8) being mounted in the movable frame section. The displacement device for moving the object supporting part (9) of the conveyor belt backwards and forwards is driven by a second drive device and located in between the fixed and movable frame sections. The conveyor belt extends around two parallel guide rolls in the frame which are positioned so that the object supporting part of the belt is sloping. A first drive device moves the belt in the transport direction, causing the object supporting part of the belt to follow an upwards trajectory. The object supporting part of the belt is moved backwards and forwards at right angles to the sloping direction of the belt.
