The branch point fitting (1) has an integral drilling device which is used to perform a drilling process in which the drill is urged towards the pipe wall and rotated separately so that the drill is pressed against the wall under a given load during rotation. The drilling device remains in the fitting after the branch point has been connected. The branch point fitting is secured to the pipe wall and then a hole is drilled in the wall.
