The data carrier (1) is provided with a non-volatile memory chip (3) in which informative data is stored and has connection devices (5) for a personal computer. On the data carrier is a representation (7) which provides information concerning the operation or product to which the information refers. The information includes data for a menu (9) which appears on a visual display unit as soon as the data carrier is connected to the personal computer or as soon as the personal computer with connected data carrier is switched on. Via the menu, choice can then be made of one of the different possibilities, such as the formation of a connection with a web site (11) of the realization of a handling (13), operational presentation (15) or brochure (17) present on the data carrier. Via the menu also a route description (19) to an operation can be reproduced or information which is normally shown on a visiting card (21) can be presented. The data carrier also has speech data, permitting specific information without a personal computer to be reproduced, using a small audio apparatus.
