Treatment of substance addiction with a mu-opioid receptor antagonist and a calcium channel blocker

Disclosed are methods of therapy for substance addiction comprising the administration of a combination of mu-opioid receptor antagonist and a calcium channel blocker which is long-acting or in a sustained release form, as well as combinations and compositions useful therefor. In the case of opiate addiction, the subject is first detoxified. Said calcium channel blocker is selected from verapamil nifedipine amlodipine and felodipine , and the mu- opioid receptor may be naltrexone or other such drugs.
