A viral vector system is provided comprising at least a first nucleic acid segment encoding at least one fusion protein comprising a functional portion of a truncated Gag polypeptide fused in frame to a functional portion of reverse transcriptase and/or integrase. The first nucleic acid segment is capable of expression in a mammalian cell to viral nucleic acid sequences present in the cell, where the functional portion of Gag is further capable of providing for the incorporation of the reverse transcriptase and/or integrase into a translenti viral particle produced within the cell.
