Purified fibrinogen free of destabilising levels of plasminogen and other proteases obtained from a Fraction I paste

Methods for purifying fibrinogen are described, in particular a method of separating fibrinogen from plasma fraction I precipitate. Also described is the purification of fibrinogen using ion-exchange chromatography wherein the addition of at least one ù-amino acid, such as å-amino caproic acid (EACA), to the wash buffer of the ion-exchange step results in an enhanced yield and greater stability of fibrinogen concentrate relative to the absence of the ù-amino acid in the wash buffer.
