Purified LSR (lipolysis stimulated receptor) that binds lipoproteins (Lp) in presence of free fatty acids (FFA) and binds cytokines (Cy) in absence of FFA, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) purified, isolated or recombinant polypeptides (I) that make up LSR; (2) purified, isolated or recombinant nucleic acid (II) that encodes LSR or (I); (3) cloning and/or expression vectors containing (II); (4) host cells transformed with this vector; (5) non-human mammals containing a cell of (4); (6) recombinant production of (I); (7) mono- or poly-clonal or chimeric antibodies (Ab), or immunoconjugates that react specifically with (I) or LSR; (8) screening for (bio)chemicals (A) that interact with LSR; (9) (A); (10) use of Cy, specifically leptin, for modulating activity of LSR.
