Process for production of trans-tramadol and salts thereof by epimerisation of cis-tramadol

Described is method of production of trans-tramadol and salts thereof for pharmaceutical use, during which cis-tramadol is selectively epimerized to trans-tramadol with assistance of acids in the temperature scale of 5 - 45 °C. For epimerization cis-tramadol is used, either clear or in the form of mixture, from the process of the preparation, separation or purification of trans-tramadol.
