The invention relates to the non-ferrous metallurgy, particularly to the production of magnesium with electrolysis in the flow line, and is aimed at an improvement of process for carnallite preparation to electrolysis. A method for electrolytic preparation of magnesium involves carnallite dehydration to water content of 13-18 %, melting and chlorination in jet of hydrochloric gases at volume part of hydrogen chloride therein of 50-70 %. Melting is performed at the temperature of 500-550 DEGREE C, and chlorination is performed at 550-600 DEGREE C. Anhydrous carnallite melt with a content of 0.15-0.05% by weight of magnesium oxide is directed to the flow line of electrolysis which contains no more than 3% of electrolyzers without diaphragm with upper anodes inlet. Realization of the method for electrolytic preparation of magnesium provides a stable operation of electrolyzers with upper anodes inlet, and due to this it is possible to reduce them by 3 times, and also reduce total electric power inputs by 13%.
