The top side (9) of the gas inlet (3) is essentially flush with the bottom side (10) of the packing (8) inside the column (1). A contact apparatus comprising a structured packing positioned between a gas inlet at the bottom end (2) and an exit (4) at the top end (5) for an upwards gas flow, and between a liquid inlet (6) at the top end and an exit (7) at the bottom end for a downwards flow of liquid. The top side of the gas inlet is essentially flush with the bottom side of the packing.
