The alkaline cleaning agent is prepared by spraying a packaging containing a dry mixture of sodium hydroxide and complexing agent with water. A method for cleaning a pipe-based milking system comprises the alternate use of an alkaline cleaning agent (A) based on sodium hydroxide and (B) an acidic cleaning agent. (A) is prepared in situ by spraying water upwards from the underside of a plastic packaging containing a dry mixture containing sodium hydroxide, complexing agent and optional additives, in order to dissolve these components successively. An Independent claim is also included for the packaged alkali product used to prepare (A) by spraying with water without any manual contact.
