Foot measurement method for patient suffering from pronation or supination, uses wedge with local thickness measurements to determine neutral position of foot relative to underlay
The foot is gently pressed against a flat underlay and the neutral position of the foot relative to the underlay is altered by the person carrying out the measurement twisting the patient's lower leg (8) outwards or inwards whilst at the same time feeling between the thumb and index finger for lateral or medial movement of the talar head. When the talar head protrudes the same on both sides the foot is in the neutral position. A wedge (7) with a small wedge angle is placed between the foot and underlay so that it supports the foot in its neutral position. The wedge has thickness markings (71) for local wedge thickness and these values are recorded along the foot and used to prepare a ball of a foot or shoe inlay which keeps the foot in the neutral position.
