A compound of the following formulawherein m is an integer of 1 to 3, R1, and R2 are the same ordifferent and each is hydrogen atom or lower alkyl, and Ra, R4,R5 and R6 are the same or different and each is hydroxy or agroup of the formula (wherein n is 0 or 1, X is -NH- or -0-, Y is alkylene, A ishydrogen atom, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen atom ortrifluoromethyl, and B is alkyl or alkenyl), with the provisothat two or three of R3, R4, R5 and Ra are hydroxyl groups andthat when two of them are hydroxyl groups, the cases where R3and R5 are hydroxy, and R4, and Re are hydroxy are excluded; acomplex compound comprising said compound and a metallic atom;and a diagnostic agent containing said complex compound. Theabove compound is useful as a chelating agent and the complexcompound comprising said compound and a metallic atom exhibitssuperior characteristics as a contrast medium for imagediagnosis.
