The austenitic stainless steel having resistance toneutron-irradiation-induced deterioration which is obtainedby subjecting a stainless steel to thermal solid solutiontreatment at 1,000 to 1,180°C and then subjecting the so-treated steel to aging treatment at 600 to 750°C, whereinsaid stainless steel consists of not more than 0.08% byweight of C, not more than 2.0% by weight of Mn, not morethan 1.5% by weight of Si, not more than 0.045% by weight ofP, not more than 0.030% by weight of S, 8.0 to 22.0% of byweight Ni, 16.0 to 26.0% of by weight Cr and the balance ofFe.
