The invention relates to an arched three-dimensional structure built from a first planar component (1) and a second planar component (2). The first planar component comprises sheets (3), connected to each other by means of connection joints (4). The connection joints (4) are located in the gap between the lateral edges (11) of adjacent sheets (3). The second planar component (2) comprises individual membrane elements (5). Each membrane element (5) comprises a first membrane (6) and a second membrane (7). The membrane elements (5) can be formed by overlaying two webs of membrane material and welding or gluing the same together along the connection regions (8) thereof. Connector elements (9) engage at the connection regions (8) by means of which the first planar component (1) and the second planar component (2) are connected. When the membrane elements (5) are filled with gas, the entire structure adopts a domed, arched form as a result of the interaction of the both planar components (1) and (2) which is self-supporting. Extremely stable buildings can thus be produced. One application area is as large halls for sports and similar activities, or as storage halls for parking vehicles or aircraft.
