The invention relates to an electromechanical actuator comprising at least one layer provided with nanotubes having an average predominant direction in the layer and over the nanotube arrangement. The invention also relates to electrolytes for actuators, actuators having a multilayer arrangement, geometric arrangements of the nanotube layers, actuators having an improved control capacity, special kinematics, shear force decoupling, relaxation electrodes, and means for increasing the ion speed. The invention also relates to methods for producing and using said actuators.
