PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for recovering cobalt in a lithium ion battery capable of efficiently recovering cobalt from a discarded lithium ion battery, a manufacturing failure battery, and a defective positive electrode at a high recovery yield, and enhanced in safety for cobalt recovery work.;SOLUTION: This method and this system include: a process (step S100) for extracting cobalt from the defective positive electrode by using a solvent, and for extracting cobalt from extraction residue obtained from the defective positive electrode and magnetically attracted substances obtained from the discarded lithium ion battery and the manufacturing failure battery; a process (step S200) for removing impurities included in the cobalt extraction solution to obtain a cobalt clean solution; a process (step S300) for producing cobalt hydroxide cake from the cobalt clean solution; and a process (step S400) for decomposing, by an electric current, an electrolytic solution of cobalt using the cobalt hydroxide cake as an electrolyte to deposit cobalt.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
