The invention relates to apparatus for a competitive game involving a basketball and basketball basket, which gives the player the opportunity of systematically practising all the performance factors that are important for a basketball player and of automating his or her movement patterns. The running performance that is produced is measured and at the same time the height of the jump during the throw is determined by means of the measuring photoelectric barriers (21, 22) and the baskets scored are differentiated according to their precision by means of a combined evaluation of an acceleration sensor (29) positioned on the basket hoop (27) and a tensile sensor (30) positioned on the basket net (28). The invention is characterised in that a computer programme interprets the measured values in a realistic manner and produces feedback in such a way that the player is led to achieve a continuous improvement in performance in the shortest time possible, thus finding the training self-motivating and exciting. The special evaluation system also forms the basis for a competitive game, which culminates in a ranking list, in which players can compare themselves with other players according to objective criteria. Said ranking list is created on the international data network and is regularly updated.
