The present invention relates to a method of automatically sorting postal matters for allowing a bar code assignment apparatus to assign a bar code elements containing postal information on postal matters to the postal matters and allowing a bar code recognition apparatus to sort the postal matter by bar codes. The method includes a step of inputting at least one ID code that is selected from an ID group consisting of an address, a telephone number, a mobile phone number, a resident registration number, a business registration number, a water service gauge number, a gas service gauge number and a computer IP address; a step of inputting an ID code as a search input value into a database consisting of records having a mailman code assigned to a mailman’s jurisdictional zone, a carrier sequence code assigned to a carrier sequence zone where the mailman’s jurisdictional zone is subdivided by paths along which postal matters are delivered, an individual customer code, a corporation customer code, and a company customer code to generate a bar code; a step of allowing a bar code assignment apparatus to assign the generated bar codes to the postal matters; a step of allowing a sorting apparatus for recognizing the bar codes assigned to the postal matters to sort the postal matters by codes, to sort the postal matters by mailman codes; and a step of allowing the postal matter sorting apparatus to sort the postal matters that pass through the by-mailman-codes sorting step by carrier sequence codes assigned to a carrier sequence zone where the mailman’s jurisdictional zone is subdivided by paths along which the postal matters are delivered.
