The invention relates to an arrangement for preventing a liquid from being overcooked in a saucepan, especially a milk pan for household purposes, said arrangement comprising a dome-shaped insert which can be inserted into the pan. According to the invention, the insert is embodied as a thin-walled, open truncated cone (1), the lower edge diameter thereof being slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the pan. The truncated end of the insert has a central opening (10), and the insert co-operates with distancing means (2, 3, 14) in order to maintain the lower edge of the insert at a slight distance above the liquid level in the pan.
