The operating method is used for an alarm system having an alarm centre (1) and at least one radio unit (G1,..Gn) coupled to the alarm centre via an alarm line (2) and connected via a radio link (4) with one or more alarm detectors (3). The voltage along the alarm line is monitored and the radio unit is switched to a lower operating energy level when a voltage drop is detected, for preventing failure of the alarm system. Also included are Independent claims for the following: (a) an alarm system; (b) a line element for an alarm system.
