The invention relates to a method and a direct strand reduction installation for producing a metal strip, in particular a hot-rolled steel strip consisting of a continuous cast pre-strip, on pass lines comprising blooming trains (2) and finishing trains (3). According to the invention, the changeover from the blooming train (2) into the finishing train (3) is achieved in an energy saving manner and without additional equipment. To achieve this, the cast strand in the blooming train (2), which has a direct connection to a run-out of the continuous casting installation (1), is rolled to form a pre-strip and is subsequently coiled in a winding coil box (4) and only the thermal losses of the coils are compensated in relation to the initial pass temperature, by heating the coils in a continuous furnace (7).
